History

Our Beginning | Green Mountain High School was built in 1973 during a time of high growth in the Denver area. The school was one of three high schools that were built as “temporary” facilities to meet the community’s growing needs. The goal was that once the district finalized its plans for the area’s school system, Green Mountain High School, along with the other two schools would be replaced. That was more than 40 years ago and all three schools are still standing today.

The floor plans were designed with the “open-concept” classroom layout, which today continues to prove useful. Classroom walls are movable so rooms can be combined to accommodate student growth or communal classroom learning set ups. In 1995, Green Mountain High School underwent a renovation effort, which significantly expanded the school, adding a second level, the math/science wing, front offices, and auditorium.

School Colors & Mascot | The Green Mountain High School colors are black and gold. When the school first opened in 1973, the students and staff selected the school colors and mascot. At the time CU Boulder and CSU were the two largest universities in Colorado. The students and staff selected black and gold to represent CU Boulder and the RAM mascot to represent CSU. Today, we still have large numbers of graduates who attend these institutions.

Community | The Green Mountain community has a long tradition of academic and athletic excellence. There is a true sense of community among staff, students, parents, and community members. Thirteen staff members are Green Mountain High School graduates, including the principal, and many of the students are second and third generation RAMS!

The Green Mountain area feeder schools of Devinny, Green Mountain, Foothills, Hutchinson, and Rooney Ranch Elementary Schools, and Dunstan Middle School work collaboratively with the high school to support each other as a community. Green Mountain High School is proud of its history and continually strives to maintain a “town” feeling by being good stewards of the community and providing expanded opportunities for each student.

School Logos | Through the years

GMHS Crest

The Green Mountain High School crest, created in 2001 by Herff Jones represents the school’s comprehensive nature. At the center of the shield is the GM surrounded by the four pillars including the academic lamp, a harp and theater masks, the winged shoe of Mercury, and the scientific nucleus with orbiting electrons. They represent our central academic mission to develop knowledge as well as celebrate pride in the performing arts and athletic programs. Across the top of the logo are the majestic Rocky Mountains which surround the Green Mountain area. The RAMS name, Green Mountain banner and mascot prominently surround the shield. The crest’s design has become a lasting representation of the traditions and excellence of Green Mountain High School.

Original Logo

This logo was created in 2008. The fierce Ram’s horns in gold show the letter “G.” The logo represents a 21st century design that aligns with the school’s brand messaging.

New Logo

This logo was created in 2015 by the marketing and public relations firm, DECIBEL, hired by Principal Colleen Owens to re-brand the school, increase outreach to students, staff, parents, and the community, and create processes to share the great things happening at Green Mountain High School.

Green Mountain High School Song
A victory is what we’re after
We’ll get it too
For RAMS are best
We show it each day through
So raise your Black and Gold banners
To the sky
Green Mountain RAMS
Green Mountain RAMS
Green Mountain RAMS
We’re with you all the way!
